Position Overview
The International Student House of Washington, DC (I-House DC) seeks a highly motivated, passionate, and qualified candidate for a unique live-in Residential Life position. The ideal candidate should be an effective and analytical problem-solver who can respond calmly and promptly in various situations. Being an engaging self-starter and team player who can adapt and learn quickly while helping to maintain a vibrant community is key to this position. Experience in residential life, housing operations, and room coordination within the secondary, higher education, or nonprofit context is ideal. Additionally, candidates with foreign language proficiency, study abroad experience, international living experience, and/or student counseling skills are highly encouraged to apply.
This key position collaborates closely with Residents, leadership, staff, vendors, and contractors to develop the community. The position provides the candidate a unique opportunity to live in and engage with a highly inclusive international community of graduate students, interns, young professionals, and visiting scholars, all while living in the very sought-after Dupont Circle neighborhood. The position requires a proven commitment to fostering international student exchanges and working with young adults (primarily graduate students), as well as maturity, flexibility, keen judgment, and strong organizational, marketing, and management skills. A bachelor’s degree is required. A graduate degree or higher is preferred.
This is a full-time, 40-hour-a-week position that reports directly to the Manager, Resident Life, and supports a team of Ambassador Fellows (12-15). The position is in Washington, DC, and requires the individual to reside on-site in an apartment provided by the organization. Staff is required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 unless a reasonable medical or religious accommodation is approved.

Responsibilities and Duties
Resident Life & Management
- First point of contact for emergencies during assigned rotation;
- Assist with the management and development of the Ambassador Fellows Program;
- Support the operational needs of Fellow-initiated endeavors;
- Facilitate occasional after-hours check-ins (10:00 PM – 9:00 AM);
- Support strategic planning and execution;
- Contribute to the ongoing delivery and improvement of the Resident experience life-cycle.
Admissions & Operations
- Provide operational support for all programming off and on campus;
- Manage Resident reservations, including the allocation of rooms and beds;
- Assist with the management of food service processes and policies for maximum efficiency and satisfaction;
- Implement the Resident check-in and check-out process in conjunction with the Manager, Resident Life, and Ambassador Fellows;
- Contribute to the development of detailed operations manuals for the organization.
Programming
- Manage and support events and activities hosted by the House;
- Initiate 2-3 Resident activities (social and academic) a month in the House;
- Support Resident-initiated activities.
Resident Relations
- Oversee the activities of the Head Fellow;
- Support Ambassador Fellows in issue escalation scenarios;
- Document incidents and manage Resident files;
- Report weekly on Resident concerns;
- Assist in cases of Resident emergencies, including assistance with reviewing, issuing, and enforcing COVID-19 protocols.
Special Responsibilities
- Actively participate and contribute to the broader communications, strategic, and organizational development initiatives;
- Participate in events and activities outside of the office and on weekends and evenings as needed;
- Work either Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Eve/Day according to a rotating schedule;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree;
- At least two (2) years of professional experience in student affairs, residential life, higher education, or similar entities;
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with both internal and external stakeholders;
- Excellent communications skills, written and verbal, in-person, virtual, and hybrid;
- Excellent writing and editing skills;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work inclusively and with understanding of others;
- Ability to set priorities when multiple demands are present;
- Ability to remain calm and manage emergency situations;
- Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality;
- Ability to work with a high degree of initiative and independence;
- Great “can-do” attitude with a desire to innovate, develop, and implement;
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities;
- Currently legally authorized to work in the United States;
- Proof of COVID-19 Vaccine.
Preferred Requirements
- M.A. in student affairs, student development, higher education, organizational leadership, school counseling, social work, higher education administration, or related field;
- International experience and/or foreign language proficiency;
- Strong experience with MS Office, SharePoint, web-based communications, basic HTML, and social media platforms;
- Experienced in housing and dormitory management and operations;
- Experienced with PMS platforms;
- Experienced with CRM platforms (i.e. Hubspot, Salsa CRM, Salesforce)
- Excellent time management and scheduling skills, as well as attention to detail;
- Excellent project management, execution, and organizational skills;
- Ability to work well with others and support a team.
