About the Resident Experience
International Student House of Washington, DC (I-House DC) provides an exceptional residential experience to a vibrant and highly diverse international community of graduate students, visiting scholars, and young professionals. Each year, nearly 300 residents from over 70 countries call the House home, creating an environment where intercultural dialogue and lifelong connections thrive.
Our residents are typically in their 20s and early 30s—graduate students, interns, or scholars—and are deeply engaged in Washington’s intellectual and professional life. As a guest, you will join this dynamic community, sharing meals in our historic Tudor-style mansion, engaging in conversations in our elegant public spaces, and contributing to the spirit of global citizenship that defines the House.
What We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from mission-aligned alumni of I-House DC or other International Houses, accomplished scholars, professionals, and leaders who wish to connect with our Residents. Visiting Fellows are expected to contribute meaningfully to the community through structured engagement, not simply as visitors or friends of the House. Through this program, we aim to bring valuable resources to our community—strengthening networking opportunities, expanding our capacity to advance global citizenship, and fostering lifelong connections and intercultural dialogue. The Visiting Fellow In Residence Program application can be found here.
Participation benefits both Residents and Visiting Fellows: young resident leaders gain direct access to expertise and mentorship, while Visiting Fellows engage with an energetic international community, exchange ideas across disciplines, and build lasting ties with future global changemakers.
