Special Musical Performance of “Zarzuela” Arias and Duos  by

Teatro Lirico

Join us for a performance
and reception

Friday, February 12, 7:00pm reception, followed by the performance at 8:00pm

Teatro Lirico of DC is a non-profit arts organization that promotes Hispanic classical music and Hispanic opera singers in the Washington, DC area.  We specialize in staged performances of opera, zarzuelas (Spanish light operas), and concerts of art songs.

Zazuela Arias and Duos . A unique treat for zarzuela lovers, this concert showcases 12 highly prestigious opera and zarzuela singers in some of the finest pieces from the Spanish lyric repertoire.

For those not familiar with this music genre, a zarzuela is a play with music and spoken parts. It is a genre whose production spanned from the 17th century through the 20th century.  Depending on when it was composed a zarzuela may resemble an opera, an operetta, or a musical. Whatever the style, Spain’s joie de vivre is always present.

The performance will feature  Gustavo Ahualli (baritone), Anamer Castrello  (mezzo),  Israel Lozano (tenor), and Jose Sacin (baritone),  among others; accompanied by Zsolt Balogh on the piano.
