Mrs. Hagel traveled extensively with her husband, current U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, throughout Europe and the Middle East.  She also served as an election monitor with the International Republican Institute in Kiev, Ukraine, for the parliamentary elections in March 2006.
