Recently, the International Student House of Washington, DC, hosted our annual Holiday Reception, creating a heartwarming atmosphere reminiscent of a family gathering. This annual gathering offers an opportunity to come together to acknowledge and celebrate our community and to thank all our stakeholders for remaining engaged and supporting the House in their generous and unique ways. The event was attended by over 100 of our friends, family, alums, Board Members, and supporters.
The undeniable highlight of the evening was musical performances from our Residents that enlivened the night: The voice of Vinayak “Vinny” Kalra from Canada, Gabriel Torres from Brazil on his guitar, Srujan Palkar from India on the Tabla, Elise Cognord from France on the ukulele and Khunanon “Up” Wihakhaphirom from Thailand at the piano, each offered their unique musical talents, enriching our celebration. The highlight was a group sing-along of “Rockin-Around the Christmas Tree,” led by “Vinny” from Canada, infusing the evening with festive energy!
We were delighted to host members of the diplomatic community, including the Ambassadors of Ireland and Nicaragua, along with representatives from the Embassies of Japan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Portugal. Their presence highlights the close partnership the House enjoys with many of the diplomatic representations in Washington, DC, and added a distinguished touch of international fellowship to our gathering.
The evening was more than a mere celebration; it reflected the values that define the House – embracing cultural exchange and fostering a sense of community. Every interaction, through music, conversation, and shared laughter, emphasized the power of our global community.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone involved in organizing this one of its kind Holiday Reception, from the I-House DC team to our Residents who showcased their talents to create a memorable night. It’s gatherings like these that underscore the spirit of international friendship and learning that stands at the core of I-House DC.
