The Transformation of the Media in the Digital Age

November 1, 2012 by ISHDC

International Student House
is pleased to invite you to a
special presentation by

Barbara Slavin
Washington Correspondent, Al-Monitor.com;
Senior Fellow
The Atlantic Council of the United States

&
Laura Rozen
Foreign Policy Reporter, Al-Monitor.com

The Transformation of the Media in the Digital Age

Monday, November 12
7:00 – 9:00 pm

1825 R Street, NW, Washington, DC 20009

Rozen and Slavin will discuss the evolution of journalism in the digital age toward more specialized websites that cater to specific audiences. Is this a positive development or one that poses dangers to democratic governance? How do we find ways to preserve high quality foreign correspondence and investigative journalism?
They will also answer questions from the audience, including how to prepare to be a journalist.

RSVP: Judy Singer, Director of Development
(202) 232-4007 x210; [email protected]

Barbara Slavin is Washington correspondent for Al-Monitor and a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council where she focuses on Iran. She is a former assistant managing editor of the Washington Times, senior diplomatic reporter for USA Today, Middle East correspondent for The Economist and an editor at The New York Times Week in Review. She is the author of a 2007 book on the US and Iran entitled, Bitter Friends, Bosom Enemies: Iran, the U.S. and the Twisted Path to Confrontation. She tweets at @BarbaraSlavin1.

Laura Rozen writes the Back Channel News Blog for Al-Monitor. She previously served as senior foreign policy reporter for Politico and Yahoo News, and wrote the “Cable” blog for Foreign Policy Magazine. She is based in Washington, D.C. You can follow her on Twitter at @lrozen.

Al-Monitor (www.al-monitor.com) is a new media organization that seeks to introduce a global audience to the Middle East in its own words. Founded in the wake of the Arab Spring, Al-Monitor selects and translates articles from the diverse and independent Arabic, French, Hebrew and Turkish media in the Middle East and builds on that dialogue with insightful, original commentary and web video.

ISH’s educational outreach programs
are made possible, in part,
by a generous grant from Al-Monitor.
